About Dementia
Dementia affects over 850,000 people in the UK and this is expected to continue to rise. Dementia is a term used to cover a range of conditions that affect the brain. There are over 200 variations of dementia known including the likes of Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies to name a few. A common misconception is Dementia only affects the elderly, in fact it can affect a person at any age. It works by damaging the nerve cells that communicate with each other in the brain. This loss of communication between cells is what results in the body from functioning as expected and is the source of the memory loss typically associated with the condition.
